As part of the same rebrand project, the client asked me to extend this new product line with a sukiyaki grill — continuing the shift from their budget-tier image toward the mid-tier market I'd started with the oden cooker.
For this piece, I looked to the traditional wooden handles found on Japanese hot pots and cookware, and translated that handle form directly onto the lid of a modern electric grill — carrying a familiar, tactile shape from traditional Japanese kitchenware into a contemporary appliance. I paired it with a body finished in sumi ink black, a deliberate departure from the oden cooker's white: where the oden cooker aimed for warmth and softness, this piece needed to read as more grounded and refined, closer to the quiet confidence of a well-made cast-iron pot.
Wood and ink black together let the product sit in the same visual family as the oden cooker — same brand language, same cultural grounding — while giving this piece its own, slightly more mature character within the line.
